(NL)De wegens smaad veroordeelde onderzoeksjournalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) wordt gevraagd een onderzoek in te stellen naar de verdwijning van Harriet Vanger, ruim veertig jaar geleden. De opdrachtgever is de Zweedse industrieel Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer), de oom van het meisje. Tegelijkertijd ontdekt de getatoeëerde hacker Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) het complot dat schuil gaat achter de val van Blomkvist.
