Sisters Eve Marks (Meg Ryan), Georgia Mozell (Diane Keaton), and Maddy Mozell (Lisa Kudrow) have a very limited relationship that mainly involves quick conversations over the phone. Their father Lou Mozell (Walter Matthau) has failing health and will soon die, but they were never close to him and don’t seem to care. Eve is left to take care of him. As his condition worsens, Eve calls upon her sisters for support. Through each phone conversation, the women grow closer and closer. They also grow closer to their father, even though he can be difficult to deal with. His dying is the one thing that can finally make them a family again.
